Dispatches from Playa: What’s the Filmmaker Reading?

posted in: Other Work | 4

Like any residency, Playa has a library. And like most residencies, Playa’s library contains some classics (Shakespeare, Twain), some unexpected gems (a collection of Audre Lorde poems), and a whole mess of regional books. There are books about fauna (Field Guide to Western Birds), flora (The Wildflower Book from the Rockies West), Oregon’s geography (Atlas of Oregon), geology (Geology of Oregon), and history (Historic Oregon).

And then, there is this…

And yes, I am reading it. How could I resist “a frank and freaky speak-in”?

Look, we all need a break now and then, right?

Excellent question! Damned if I know. There is a chapter devoted to male groupies. Funny how that isn’t mentioned on the cover.

Ha! That book puzzled me. How did it get there? Was it a mini cyclone that tipped over a truck north of the ranch where the road turns hummocky? Whose library upchucked that gem for Playa?

I know. I saw that book the first day we were here and I was stumped, too. I must confess, though, it was fun to read!
