11th Hour Fundraising!

Hello Friends,

I’m very pleased to announce that A Life’s Work is very nearly complete! I know, I know, I don’t believe it either.

The colorist will be done coloristing in a matter days, the credits have been compiled, and the music will be delivered to the mixer in a week or so — once that’s complete it will be delivered to the sound guy for him to insert it in the film. And when that’s all done, the film will be ready to put into digital formats so it can go out into the world. And that is both exciting and terrifying.

BIG Money

A few months ago a patron who had made two very generous donations over the course of the last two years, made a third.

Needless to say, this large donation made for a good day. And though it did pay some bills, the reality is there are still some services that need to be paid for — essentially all of the artists who will be doing the work listed in the second paragraph.

And so the fundraising continues. I’ve been emailing countless foundations and asking for discretionary funds they might have. Writing grants. Praying for a briefcase full of Jacksons to fall out of the sky.

I will not be doing another crowdfunding thingy. However…

Give What You Can, Take What You Want

… I am extending another plea to you. If you haven’t had a chance to donate to A Life’s Work, now would be the perfect, and I mean perfect time to do so. In return I am inviting you download one of the following for any amount donated. (Well, there is a $5 minimum, I’m sorry to say.)

  • A collection of some of my previously published stories, nonfiction, essays, and interviews. More than 120 pages in all. These works have appeared in literary journals, magazines, and web sites and there is no way you’d be able to find all of them without spending a lot of time and some money.
  • Eleven MP3s of me playing more than 20-minutes worth of classical guitar music. You’ll get music composed by Bach, Chopin, Satie, Villa Lobos and more, all recorded in glorious low-fi, warts and all. These were recorded in a meditation garden and in a boat house in Upstate New York, beside a brook in Wyoming, outside a cottage in New Hampshire, in a field and an abandoned grain silo in Virginia, and in my apartment.
  • Five personalized haiku written by me. I don’t know if you’ve ever had a poem written about you, but if you haven’t, I can tell you there are few things that make you feel more special.
  • Two of my early short films: 8 1/2 x 11, starring the charming Ellen Pompeo, who plays Meredith Grey in the long running ABC show, Grey’s Anatomy and the award-winning, sorta dance film, Tango Octogenario.
  • A very short film (under one minute) dedicated to you, given to you, and shared on social media so you can show everyone you know how awesome you are.

If you want more than one of these things, I’m sure we can work something out.

As always, thanks for your support.

Best Wishes,

David
