I’m leaving Ucross today and preparing for a bumpy re-entry. They always are.
Here are some photos taken during my residency. Hope you like them.

Nice! How long were you there? Can you tell us more about the experience?
David Licata
Hi Perri,
I was there for four weeks. It’s a wonderful place, second only to MacDowell, I’d say, and really not too far behind that.
Wyoming is spectacular, especially if you like lunar landscapes. You are about 20 minutes by car from the nearest town. This was important to some people.
Nine people are there at one time, people come and go during your stay. The food is excellent and lunch is brought to your door. Breakfast and weekends you fend for yourself.
The staff are very accommodating and just plain old nice. The other artists are accomplished and belong there. Ultimately, with these smaller residencies, it’s about the people you’re spending time and space with, and I was blessed to be part of a good group. We all got along, did things together but it didn’t get all weird when we did things separately.
Getting there is a bit of a drag, but once you’re there, you’re golden.
I was in a visual artist studio and I liked my space very much. The writer’s studios I saw were very nice.
I had insomnia while I was there, but that’s just me. I also felt not very productive and like my work was flat and dull. But again, I think I brought that mindset with me from NYC.
Should you apply? Hell yes!
Thanks for asking.
Hope you’re well.
David
