At Hyde Park Records I picked up some Solomon Burke and Joe Tex, very happy with those, but the big score came in Lincoln Park on North Clark Street, hours before the flight back to New York. A store front window full of children’s clothing caught my eye because I needed to buy a birthday present for a two year old. I entered and spotted, besides lots of kid’s stuff, some pottery. I could smell its presence. I looked around and there, separate from the rest of the pottery and behind a book, as if hiding, was this–
I’m a casual collector of Hall pottery, especially their vibrant Chinese red; it’s similar to the Fiestaware red Warhol used to collect, only Hall’s red doesn’t contain lead or uranium! Mostly I buy the “pert” style, which this is not, but I couldn’t pass up the red. What can I say? Some people are sucked in by shiny objects, I’m sucked in by red objects.
Perfect condition and reasonably priced–cheaper than it would cost on E-bay, that’s for sure.
Eat your heart out, RWC!
