Happy Third Birthday, A Life’s Work Blog!

posted in: The Film | 6
What kind of man forgets a blog’s  birthday?

For one, a distracted man, a man named me. And so it is with shame and a million apologies that I say, “Happy Third Birthday, A Life’s Work blog!”

Yes, on June 20th, 2009, I decided this documentary needed a blog. For the most part, it has been a joy to work on this thing. Sure, some days I’m at a loss about what to write, and some days I wonder if anyone cares about this, and some days I wonder if I care about this! But I soldier on.

Excuse me while I get a little meta.
“But why do you keep blogging?”

A Life’s Work has been such a stop and go affair, and lately, with the search for money for post, there has been a long stop period. One benefit to blogging is it keeps my head in the film. As long as I’m here, I’m thinking about the film. When I stop thinking about the film it either means the film is completed, or something else, something I don’t like to contemplate.

Another benefit is the inspiration I receive from you, the donors, guest bloggers, subscribers, and commenters, the likers and sharers, and tweeters and retweeters, the stumble uponers and the pinners, and those of you who just read. You are telling me there are people out there that think this film is worth being in the world. And for that I’m eternally grateful.

Happy birthday, David’s blog. I’ve read that most blogs don’t make it to the 6-month point (Oh, you mean I have to write this regularly?), so three years is quite the accomplishment. And it’s great that you’ve found it nourishing for you and your art on many levels.

Thank you, Duane. I totally understand the 6-month expiration date. It’s a lot of work (as you know), generating new posts on a regular basis. Right now, I average two posts a week, and I’d like to try three a week, but I don’t think I have it in me. There’s a fine line between nourishing and burning out, it seems.

“1 badly bruised finger tip” This requires explication, I do believe. After all, I want to know what sort of risks I’m signing up for as a novice blogger.

Happy birthday, blog! You always make my week a little brighter.
